Thoughts of the Founder and the Executive Director
Those 24 children who gathered in a remote primary school on the bank of the river Jamuna with a vision to shaping their future, or those 32 women in a remote village of Gabtali upazilla who started pisciculture to support their livelihood, or those 38 women of Fulbari village who started tailoring dresses to earn some food for their children, are the pioneers of Gram Unnayan Karma. This is how we started GUK 27 years ago in a very small scale, but with a very big vision – a vision of developing poverty free Bangladesh, a country which had more than half of the population living under poverty line. Now, we are a family of more than 300 thousand members, spread all over the country, working relentlessly to turn the vision into reality. In GUK, we believe that the family is the center point of all development activities and designed our activities accordingly. Now, we are providing inputs like education, healthcare, finance, technology support and market linkage to our target segment, so that, the under privileged people can also participate and contribute to the sustainable development of the society. After overcoming all the challenges of our long journey, now we proudly feel that the vision we set 27 years ago, has almost become reality.
